Soul Tears
Did you ever discover tears
Sliding slowing down your face
While reading in your chair
Or in your quiet place?
You didn’t feel the grief
That eased from eyes at rest
Your heart was satisfied
But something sorrowed yet
I think that in a place
So deep and far away
A pool of tears abides
Though I would bid them stay
They come at their own will
Uninvited guests
To soothe a sorrowed soul
A gentle tenderness.
Oh, Son of God! I see
Your own dear wounded hands,
It is your tears I weep
Now I understand.
The tears you wept for me
When I had none to spare,
You kept them carefully
In deep pools unaware.
O come sweet tears divine
And soothe this aching soul
Your tears mingled with mine
Will surely make me whole.
